Amanda Shaw Solicitors have been advising businesses and individuals on buying and selling property since 2007.
We are one of the few local firms who specialise in conveyancing. Doing only this work means that we have a huge depth of experience. This experience allows us to see problems before they arise, resolve them quickly and keep your transaction moving forward, on terms that best suit you.
And, on occasion, we’ve been known to advise against proceeding, because we’ve considered the purchase or sale too much of a risk for our client’s long-term security.
Our goal is to work hard enough to allow you to feel as relaxed as possible while we move towards completion. We do this by providing ultra-responsive communications and a warm welcome at our home-based office, by explaining every step of the process, and by offering only the best, heartfelt advice.
We don’t claim to be the cheapest conveyancer in the market. But, we know that by providing the sort of honest guidance that we would give to our friends, combined with our deep legal expertise, we are giving an excellent service and the best result for every single one of our clients. Amanda founded Amanda Shaw Solicitors in 2007. She previously worked at ASB Law in Horsham as partner, and, although she enjoyed her role there, she had a strong vision of what she wanted to achieve in her own practice.
She set out to break the mould of conveyancing services available in the area, by building a business with a family feel, and a highly-responsive, but relaxed attitude.
Amanda has a genuine love for her work, she particularly enjoys using the law to get an end result that suits all parties. She has an incredible attention to detail and huge amounts of energy. She thrives on interacting with other people and dealing with challenging situations. The result of this is her ability to build long-lasting relationships with her staff, clients and most of the estate agents in the area.
When she’s not working, she loves travelling with her family, reading, skiing and running with Charlie, the dog.
Jackie has been our administrator since 2010. She previously worked for Abbey National / Santander for almost thirty years, and then with a mortgage broker for five years, so she has a huge amount of experience of staying on top of the complex details involved in financial transactions.
Jackie likes the variety of work that we ask of her, and that’s lucky because she has a huge set of responsibilities, from issuing quotations to chasing outstanding documentation.
When she is away from the office, she enjoys dog walking, travel, playing in a marching band, and meeting with friends for good food and wine.
We love Jackie because she is just so accurate! You can see that the professionalism and discipline of working in a banking environment has stayed with her. Her work is the foundation of everything that we do here. She is never flustered and she always remains calm under pressure.
Linda is our wonderful Legal Assistant and as such, her job includes a bit of everything! She has the job of assisting our two purchase lawyers. This means that she has to be very good at picking up any file and progressing it.
Linda has 20 years’ experience of working in various legal practices, but she likes being here with us because of the family feel and relaxed style of the business.
Outside of work, Linda enjoys anything horsey, walking and the outdoors. She is also a bit of a ‘petrol-head’, and enjoys motor sports.
We love Linda because she is incredibly versatile. She is able to assist with any part of the conveyancing transaction, from sending out draft contracts to Land Registry applications. Linda is a great animal lover and, despite having so many responsibilities, she always finds time for a quick chat with Charlie, our office dog.
Chartered Legal Executive
Having worked first as a legal secretary, and then as a legal executive, Nelia has a wealth of experience. She is responsible for residential conveyancing and plot sales on new developments at Amanda Shaw Solicitors.
She loves this work because she finds helping someone along the way to moving into their new home and easing the stress that comes with the process incredibly rewarding.
She’s a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and a fantastic lawyer. We love Nelia because she’s intelligent and careful, but pragmatic when necessary. Her extensive experience acting for developers makes her particularly good at dealing with new houses and complex transactions. When a problem arises, which they often do, she will diligently chase down a solution. Nelia is a good communicator, her clients are kept up to date and ask for her time and time again.
At the weekend Nelia likes playing saxophone in a band, going to live music gigs, playing badminton, baking, swimming and travelling.
Vivien has been with us since we started the business, and worked with Amanda for four years before that too. When Amanda set up the firm it was vital to her that Vivien was a part of it. She is responsible for managing our client work post-exchange and through completion.
She enjoys this work because she likes to have lots to do and a good variety of tasks to work on. She especially likes working with clients as they complete on their new home and all the excitement that comes with that part of the process.
When she’s not working, Vivien likes cooking, gardening, and going to the theatre.
We love Vivien because her loyalty and commitment are incredible – we literally could not do what we do without her. She has a wicked sense of humour and an infectious laugh, she holds the team together and always gives her job 100%. This is vital as she is dealing with all of our completions and making sure that every client’s move day goes according to plan.
Kirsty de Vos
Kirsty is our newest recruit and she fits in with the rest of the team perfectly. She has worked in conveyancing for over twelve years.
Kirsty deals with purchases, from the very start of a transaction, through to when we are ready to exchange. She enjoys her work because she loves all things property, and finds being involved in such an exciting stage in someone’s life very rewarding.
When she’s not working, Kirsty loves travelling, cooking and baking and working on her new home.
We love Kirsty because she has a great depth experience from her previous roles. She takes a diligent approach to her work. Her efficient analysis of any obstacles that crop up means that our clients don’t have to worry about having a problem that we can’t solve.
